Micha is a pony I can’t define in words. She is the child of my heart, and our journey is incredible in a way different way than the ones I’ve had with other horses and ponies. I got her as a birthday present in 2006, but at that time I had been riding her for my trainer since August same year. First time I rode her she couldn’t even canter – and if she did, it was counter or cross canter and after 20 volts in speed trot.
She took off with we when we were going to jump her for the first time, and when I should walk her off without saddle for the first time, she took off again. Luckily that was in a riding hall, and I didn’t fall off!
It has been such a long story with her, so I’ll skip most of it! No matter what; it was definitely worth the work, pain, and love. We’ve had an uncountable number of shitty rounds and experiences, but I believe she ended with we and started with Jessica as one of the very finest pony eventers in Europe.
Why I believe so is that no matter how fantastic dressage some of the other ponies do, and no matter how well-jumping some are (like Free) – no one looks like Micha in the cross. She has a mind of steel and a heart of gold; and that’s exactly what you need in a horse to do the cross. She’s so determined when she’s in the cross country, I’ve never experienced anything like that!
I think another reason why is that she wants to do it even when she’s not supposed to. Once I got her she was a place with some major fields, and Micha’s included this tiny little river and ended in a lake/pond-kind of thing with a small island in the middle. Do I have to tell you that we couldn’t find out why she always had a perfect line going around her body, where the upper part were slightly grey and the lower part completely black?
She jumped back and forth over the river-thing and took a swim around the pond to finally lay down and relax on the island. That’s quite a pony, huh??
Therefore it wasn’t really that much of a question when we had the opportunity to try out some cross country fences in the late summer of 2008. She just did everything as if it was a piece of cake, and that was when we took the decision to sign us in for an eventing competition! CNCP80; we came 3rd in the dressage, won the show jumping and won the cross; came in 2nd! And boom, just like that, we’ve been dragged into the world of eventing. We rode one more CNCP80, and afterwards the season was finished. We won everything! All three disciplines and then of course came in 1st.
2009 was a bit of a rough year though! We went from CNCP80 to CNCP2*, and we were on the gold winning team at the Nordic-Baltic Championships.
In 2010 we had an amazing season. Came in top 5 in all starts (CNCP1*-CCIP2*), qualified for the Europeans, and another team gold medal at the Nordics. We had two faults through the entire season; one pole down in the EUCH-qualifier (CCIP2*), and one down at the Nordics /CCIP1*.
Micha is sold to the Malin-family in Finland, where she competes successfully on the Finnish national team, and has done several CNCP1*s already. Their aim is the European Championships.
